About HRM of Texas
What Is HRM?

HRM of Texas is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to support and encourage holistic management in Texas. HRM of TX officially incorporated in 1987 and has since had great success in gaining member support all over Texas. An 11-member board of directors and a 21-member advisory board from all over the state govern the organization. A part-time executive secretary maintains an HRM of TX office in Dripping Springs to handle the flow of inquiry and information and to coordinate events and weekly reports to the board via email.

Each year those interested in the plan-monitor-replan aspect of our organization gather for several sessions of review, discussion, brainstorming and planning for the next year and beyond. We typically start with a review of our mission and goal to see if they are still the target for which we choose to aim. We review past decisions and projects to assess whether or not they are taking us toward that goal, and we see what activities the current group of decision makers feel we should plan to tackle. Each of the suggestions is put through the testing guidelines and assigned a priority by the group. Committees are formed and proceed with projects that are have passed the testing guidelines and are approved by the board. Monitoring occurs at our annual planning meeting and at the quarterly board meetings in different regions of the state.

Our membership consists of land managers on large ranches, small ranches, farms, suburban homes and corporate offices, in addition to scientists, educators, and agency personnel interested in exploring new and better ways to nurture whole ecosystems, to build better teams, to increase profitability and enjoy richer community life. The folks who attend our field days, workshops and conferences range from the deeply committed to the casually curious.

We invite you to join HRM of TX and let your membership dues help support the practice of holistic management in Texas through newsletters, field days, seminars and conferences. Your dues and donations are tax deductible and your active participation is greatly appreciated.

Through education about ways to make land-use practices more ecologically and economically sustainable, HRM of TX gives wings to large tract owners — helping find ways to keep them on the land; small tract owners — suggesting techniques like management cooperatives to have the benefits of large holdings in order to reduce the detrimental effects of fragmentation; and all managers — teaching decision making that considers the effects of each action on the whole as it moves the management team toward results based on the stated values in the holistic-goal HRM has proven to be extremely effective in:

  • collaboration and team building
  • restoring land to a healthy condition through better biological management
  • keeping people on the land and in business through better financial management and economic diversity such as managing wildlife for hunting and ecotourism.
HRM of Texas enlarges its capacity to provide opportunities for learning, socializing and networking by encouraging independent action by its members and by collaborating with other groups to sponsor field days, seminars and conferences all over the state.

Our Mission Statement:
