Ranching for Success

August 25th-26th - Tomball
Peggy Sechrist The Magnolia Charitable Trust once again brings Walt Davis and Peggy Sechrist for a two-day intensive holistic management ranching school near Houston. Designed to be similar to the highly successful school in Crockett last year, this school will cover:
  • Introduction to Holistic Resource Management
  • managing toward a goal
  • the principles and practices of grazing management
  • enhancing wildlife with livestock management
  • multi-species grazing
  • grazing for high animal performance and grass finishing
  • low cost pasture establishment and improvement
  • importance and management of the ecological processes
  • monitoring techniques to assess the health of the ecological processes
  • monitoring wildlife health and abundance
  • drought management
  • land planning
  • fencing and water development
  • non-toxic control of animal disease and parasites
  • predator loss control
  • organic livestock production
Walt Davis The focus will be giving people the skills and knowledge needed to make their operations profitable, stable and people friendly. Class meets at the Decker Prairie Community Development Center just north of Tomball. Part of the class will be out on the land at the nearby ranch of Tony Foltin. Students will be furnished printed material on the topics covered in addition to the class and fieldwork. Continental breakfast and full catered lunches will be provided both days.

Holistic Resource Management of Texas feels the students served by this school will increase their ability to manage for a profit, reduce their dependence on chemical and mechanical inputs, increase and improve species diversity and habitat and increase the overall health and function of their Texas ecosystems.

The HRM member fee for the entire two-day class is only $100 per student, about half the normal fee, thanks to the generous contribution of the The Magnolia Charitable Trust and the volunteer efforts of Gloria and Tony Foltin. Non-members pay $20 more. Register online or via phone with your credit card, or by sending your check, made out to HRM of TX, to Peggy Cole, HRM of TX, 5 Limestone Trail, Wimberley, TX 78676.

This class will be taught by Walt Davis and Peggy Sechrist.
